Santa has a new workshop location...Briar Hill School! Our little elves were very busy making lists, designing wrapping paper and delivering toys to each other. It was such a fun and festive week!

Our fine motor skills were put to the test during our Christmas tree number challenge. Students worked hard to cut, glue, snip, peel, stick and decorate their beautiful number trees. They were so proud to bring these home.

We talked about many different ways that families celebrate this time of the year. Students were very excited to share about their favourite holiday traditions and learned that each and every family has their own unique way of enjoying the season.

Our letter this week was G. This was a tricky one for many to print and a confusing sound for our kiddos to remember. A little extra practice with this one may be helpful.

Classroom Reminders:

1. Every morning next week, students are invited to come in to the school a few minutes early to partake in some caroling activities in the music room. Parents are welcome too! Students are asked to leave their backpacks against the wall outside of the classroom before coming down.

Have a beautiful weekend everyone! Only one week left!

Students loved coloring, painting and labeling their animal home murals this week. Each partnership worked very hard to collaborate and support each other throughout this big project. These turned out beautifully.

To continue our understanding of feelings and emotions, we explored the power of colour in art. We looked at paintings of different colours and tried to guess the meaning and emotions behind each. To connect with our letter of the week, B, we talked about what it means to feel blue. Students learned a new watercolour technique to represent a time they felt sad.

We played a new math game this week using our Power of Ten cards. These cards are amazing for helping students to develop a visual understanding of how numbers relate to one another. For example, 9 is one less than 10, 5 is half of 10, 7 is 5 and 2 more, etc. We will learn many different games with these cards throughout the year.

Classroom Reminders:

1. Our next set of Parent Teacher Interviews will be taking place on Thursday evening and Friday morning of next week (December 7 & 8). Booking for interviews is now open online through My CBE Account. Please refer to the school email sent out for further information. If you have difficulty booking, please contact the office for assistance. I hope to see you all there! Students are welcome to attend these meetings with you if you choose.

2. Due to interviews, there will be no school for morning or afternoon students next Friday, December 8.

Have a wonderful weekend!
