This week in kindergarten...

We dove deeper into the world of emotions. Students shared about times they felt sad, angry, happy and excited. We are learning to identify emotions by looking for clues on our friends' faces.

The CHILDREN took these breathtaking photos.
We have some incredible photographers in our group!

We learned to identify animals as wild or domestic.

We started gymnastics in the gym!

We focused on the letter W...this was a tricky letter sound to remember!

Classroom Information and Reminders

Our whole-school field trip to the theatre is fast approaching! On December 13, BOTH morning and afternoon students will be heading downtown to see ATP's presentation of Zorro. Field trip forms will be sent home early next week.

Please note, your child’s school hours will be modified for this day. Our combined AM and PM day will run from 10:15 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. Please arrive at school for 10:15 a.m. We ask that you arrange to have your child picked up at school at 2:20 p.m.

If you are one of the wonderful volunteers joining us for this trip, please plan to meet at 10:00 a.m. so we can have a quick chat prior to students arriving at school. Thank you!

Next Friday, December 7 is a Professional Day for teachers. There will be no school for morning or afternoon students.

See you Tuesday!

'Tis the season…of report cards!  Over the next couple of weeks, Mrs. Seddon and I will be working hard to capture, document and communicate your child’s learning at school through their first report card. Although the blog may contain less descriptive text over the next few weeks, I will continue to capture and post photos of the magic happenings in our classroom. Report cards will be sent home on December 11. Parent-teacher interviews on December 13 and 14 will provide an excellent opportunity for me to share personally the learning your child has been engaged in.

This week in kindergarten....

We talked about the letter E and explored how to express, identify and capture different emotions.

We're beginning an exploration into animals in our community and learned why they need homes.

We explored an exciting new science center. Ask your child what was inside the mystery box!

Check back next week for important information about our upcoming field trip on December 13!

Have a wonderful weekend!

We have officially become writers! Every single one of our young learners made an independent attempt to add letters to their work this week and many are now starting to listen for beginning, middle and ending sounds in the words they are recording. This is AMAAAZING progress for this point in the year! Woo hooo! If you notice your child experimenting with writing at home, please encourage all attempts and do not correct their work at this point in time. Risk-taking is a huge part of becoming a writer!

"Fire Station"

We learned a new math game this week called Lucky Number! This was a hit! The kiddos could not get enough of this game. They had so much fun with it they were completely unaware of how many math skills they were learning :) This game helps to reinforce the early number concepts of subitizing (recognizing the number of objects in a set without counting) and number printing to 6. Many even chose to play this game during center time.

We also spent time this week talking about our talents. Children had no problem coming up with multiple things they are really good at and were proud to share with their classmates.

(you should definitely zoom in to read these ones)

As a continuation of our conversation about talents, the morning class came up with ways that they could use their talents to contribute to our classroom community.

The children enjoyed a few new classroom centers this week and as always, continue to create center activities of their own. Following the passions and interests of each and every child is one of my favourite things about being a teacher.

These magical bubble moments are such a beautiful example of why I love what I do...

Can't you just hear the giggles?!?
