Spring is Here!

That means we only have 3 months left together in kindergarten. Oh how the time flies!

World Down Syndrome Day was a wonderful success! Thank you so much for showing your support by sending your child in their silliest of socks. The whole school took part in this celebration and added to our Funky Sock bulletin board. Many meaningful conversations were had throughout the day, which helped us to realize something pretty important... if we choose to focus on what we have in common, rather than what we notice to be different, we might be amazed at how similar we all are!

This week, we focused on the letter Z. I am so proud of our little writers who are now confidently sounding out words on their own each week. Only a few letters left!

On Wednesday, we talked about why we have different seasons and reflected on our favourites. Children drew pictures to represent their favourite season and wrote sentences to explain their ideas. Can you believe we're writing sentences now?!

Ms. Matthews introduced us to the concept of our circles of connection. We started by listening to the story “ The Circles All Around Us”. We learned that when we are first born, our circle is very small, but as we grow and build relationships, our circle keeps getting bigger and bigger to include family, friends, neighbours, community, and beyond!

This week in math with Miss Matthews and Mrs. Planden, we started by seeing how many different ways we could make the number 5 using coloured cardboard. Afterwards, we did an esti-mystery. Students guessed the amount of items in the picture and then got clues to help narrow down their guess.

Here are some fun photos from our centre time this week. We made a zoo!
