Our community investigation this week turned to towers! With T as our letter focus, we had so much fun exploring how to plan, build and create Tall Towers. Each child shared their favourite towers from around the world. These ranged from the Eiffel Tower and Leaning Tower of Pisa to the Bow tower and the Shell building (because a certain very special mom works there 😉). They were seriously excited to see and explore pictures of the buildings they recognized. Children created their own towers using a very fun (and very messy) new printmaking technique.
Printmaking took an awesome and unexpected turn during centre time...
On the following day, we became architects and created Tower Building Design Plans. We experimented with different design ideas and discovered that tall buildings need a strong, stable base. Our kiddos were SO proud to bring their design ideas to life.
Have you heard...?!? Starbucks has a new location at Briar Hill School! We've been serving up pumpkin spice lattes and mint chocolate chip coffees all week. These kids are measuring, sorting by size, engaging in polite and thoughtful conversations, counting and writing for real-world purposes, AND having a ton of fun along the way. This was a hit!
"Starbucks"
We played basketball during our gym times this week. We've got some seriously talented kids!
Our mantra this week:
I AM PERSISTENT!
Classroom Information and Reminders
Just a friendly reminder that we go to the library every week. Morning students go to the library on Wednesdays and afternoon students go to the library on Thursdays. Children are welcome to return their library book on or before their library day.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Miss Roberts :)
