My Sweet Kindergarten Friends,

I miss seeing you every day! I miss hearing your stories! I need updates!

I have a favour to ask you...

Can you please write me a letter? Maybe include a SUPER DUPER detailed drawing (or a bunch of drawings) to show me what you've been up to while you're away from school. Feel free to colour it too :)

When you've finished your amazing drawing and writing, please have your mom or dad take a picture of you holding your letter and email it to me!

I can't wait to hear from you!

PARENTS,

  • At this point in the year, children should be comfortably sounding out words on their own and are beginning to experiment with putting those words together to form simple sentences.
  • Please encourage your child to attempt the writing on their own and resist the urge to correct them. (They will try and convince you that they need help but they can TOTALLY do this!)
  • I would expect children to attempt 1-2 sentences. If your child is a confident writer, by all means have them fill a page!
  • Using spaces between words is not an expectation, but if your child shows an interest, then you can certainly offer some guidance for them around this.

Kindergarten writing at this point in the year might look something like this:

IEMHVFATHM
I am having fun at home.

ILVPLAENWFMYLEGOALDA
I love playing with my lego all day.

I MS SEN MI FRENS AT SKUL
I miss seeing my friends at school.

I'll be sitting at my computer all day, anxiously awaiting some letters from my kindergarten kiddos :)

I absolutely love seeing the creative things you've been up to at home. Thank you to everyone who has sent me photos so far. Keep 'em coming! Here are a few gems I received yesterday. Send along what you and your family are up to so we can all learn and be inspired from each other!

Remember that almost any task can be differentiated based on ability level. Younger siblings can be working on a simplified version of the same task.
