Welcome to June! We've almost made it! What a great time to look back and think about how much we have accomplished together throughout the past few months. I'm proud of us 💛

Great work last week! I really enjoyed seeing how each of you chose to explore shadows in your own unique way.

Only a few more of these left! HERE is our overview of activities for the week. Please take note of the reading section, which explains a reading assessment on Raz Kids. Once you complete it, it disappears. If your child accidentally "completed" it (without actually completing it) please let me know and I can assign them another passage.

TUESDAY

Our letter focus this week is CH. You know the deal! Watch the videos, draw some pictures and write a sentence or two. Your child should be able to do this in their sleep by now :) Point out this letter combo everywhere you go!

Here's a bonus video to watch AFTER your child has done their CH drawing and writing. It compares the SH and CH sound.

If you're still looking for more, art hub offers videos on how to draw a cheetah, chicken, cherry blossom tree, cheeseburger, Chewbacca and about a hundred other things that start with the CH sound. I much prefer having children draw from their imagination or by observation, but in the current learning climate, a few extra guided drawings are A-OK with me.

WEDNESDAY

Here are your new sight words for the week:

WAS   LITTLE   LOOK   THEY

I love seeing the creative ways you tackle our word work each week!

Here's a fun new game to try. It's called Sound Smash, but I think it could be easily adapted to be SIGHT WORD SMASH.

Make each sight word with letters or write it on a piece of paper. Put a small piece of playdough beside each one. Have your child SMASH each word that you say.

Practice your sight words and brighten someone's day at the same time. Write an uplifting message on your sidewalk for all to see. Make it big and colourful! Challenge yourself to bring a smile to a stranger's face today.

No sidewalk chalk? How about sidewalk paint! I tried out this recipe and LOVED it! It's just cornstarch, water and food colouring. The colors are bright and beautiful when they dry and washed away when the rain came.

THURSDAY

Have you been noticing as many butterflies as I have lately? They’re everywhere right now! Watch this video and see if you can discover at least one new thing about butterflies you didn't know before:

One of the many amazing things about butterfly wings is that they are symmetrical. Can you use objects from around your house to make a butterfly? Ensure your wings are symmetrical, just like a real butterfly.

Thank you @joysofkinder for this amazing image!

Alternatively, you can make GIANT wings and turn yourself into a butterfly!

One of our lucky friends has acquired some caterpillars! Do you know what caterpillars turn into??

BONUS ACTIVITY:

Go for a butterfly or bird search! Next time you’re on an adventure walk, see if you can spot and name some local birds or butterflies.

Find links to printable versions of these reference pages in the science section of our google drive folder. Click HERE.

FRIDAY

PASSION PROJECT DAY!

Share what you know! Call a friend or a relative and teach them something about what you’ve learned.

Start a new topic! Plant a seed and track it’s progress, go bird watching, do a science experiment, help your parents make a new recipe, learn to sew, learn a magic trick, become a photographer, learn more about butterflies!

Don't forget to find some time to be mindful, present and grateful this week. There's so much beauty out there if you take a moment to slow down and soak it all in.

Sending love,
Miss Roberts 💝
