Our time together this week was filled with explorations of remembrance and peace. Students were very interested in sharing what they know about Remembrance Day and created artistic poppy representations using various materials around the classroom.
Children reflected on the meaning of peace and drew pictures of what peace feels like to them. Their responses were so lovely…
“Peace feels like road trips with my mom.”
"Peace feels like holding my friend's hand."
“Peace feels like playing in a big pile of leaves.”
“Peace feels like breathing in my bed.”
“Peace feels like my family.”
“Peace feels like hugs.”
“Peace feels like being at the beach.”
Due to the fact that it was such a short week, we didn’t focus on a new letter. Instead, we reviewed the letters we have done so far and completed an activity to check-in with each of our little learners to find out who is understanding our letter work and who may need a bit more practice. Look for these in your child’s backpack next week :)
(This is above and beyond what I would
expect at this time in the year)

Here's a note from Mrs. Planden:
We continued to have a pattern-filled week during our whole group activities and centres. From exploring patterns using Lite-Brites, creating mini pattern books, making patterns with diverse manipulatives and creating patterns using dot markers, stickers and stamps, we have learned to create and extend patterns and learned that patterns are repetitive and predictable. It's exciting to see patterns naturally popping up as children engage in activities throughout the day (in their journals, paintings and even when playing with play-dough!)
We loved the opportunity to showcase one student's painted fingernail patterns - these real-life examples of patterns truly solidify our students' understanding outside the context of the classroom. As always, thank you for taking the time to welcome and extend our explorations in class within your homes. What sort of patterns can your child find in their home? What materials can they use to create patterns at home?
This upcoming week we will be engaging in inquires exploring geometric patterns and patterns that occur in nature!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Planden

Classroom Info and Reminders
You may recall a letter that was sent home in September that gave an overview of some of the ways we will be getting to know your child and their learning needs this year, one of which being the Early Years Evaluation (EYE). We have now completed the EYE for each child and will be sending home your child’s results next week. Please be aware that this screening tool is looking at the developmental skills students entered into kindergarten with (not an evaluation of what they have learned so far). So in some cases, children may come out as yellow (indicating they are/were experiencing some difficulty), but have since shown significant growth in that area. We will discuss these in greater detail at our December conferences.
