This week was all about LOVE! From magic potions and cupcakes to valentine cards and painting, there was plenty to explore and investigate. Take a look at some of our fun new centres...
We started the week with a letter challenge. I've noticed that our kiddos are now very confident with capital letters but not so sure when it comes to the lowercase ones. This was a quick and fun partner activity to start becoming more familiar with these :)
We read stories about love and reflected on times when we feel the most loved. The ideas our kiddos came up with truly melted my heart:
I feel loved when me and my dad have a tickle fight.
I feel loved when I sleep in my mom and dad's bed.
I feel loved when I go to grandma and grandpa's house.
I felt loved when my mom rocked me as a baby.
I felt loved when my dad brought me to work with him one day.
I feel love when my mom tucks me into bed.
Now that we're halfway through kindergarten (can you believe it?!), I thought it was a good idea to have our kiddos engage in some self-reflection of their drawing skills. We spoke about what quality work looks like and came up with a checklist to evaluate how we're doing. The work they did after this lesson was the best I've seen yet!
L was our letter focus this week. We read the story, Library Lion and couldn't resist making some ultra cute lion art!
Tuesday was GAMES day for math and we learned 3 new games to help us build upon our understanding of numbers and number relationships. Games are a fantastic way to help children develop these skills in a fun and stress-free way. We're learning to count-on when adding 2 dice together, become more confident printing numerals to 10, count with accuracy and develop a rock-solid understanding of the relationships between numbers to 10.
Classroom Information and Reminders
1. Have you accessed your child's report card yet? Make sure you don't miss the comments from Mrs. Planden and I :) Please contact the office if you're having any difficulty.
2. As mentioned in last week's blog post, we are asking children not to bring in valentines from home this year.
3. Next week is Teacher's Convention. There will be no school for morning or afternoon kindergarten on Thursday or Friday of next week (Feb. 11 & 12).
4. Well done on being such Raz-Kids reading rockstars!! Here's your reading tip of the week:
Even when reading on a screen, make sure your child points to each word as they read it (for levels A and B). After they have read a few pages, start asking them questions such as, "Can you point to the word that says, THE?" or "Can you point to where the period is?" "What word is this one?"
Have a wonderful weekend! I'll see you all on Tuesday. Mrs. Planden will be in on Friday (tomorrow) and Monday next week :)

I'll leave you with a few more centre time pictures that I can't resist sharing. So proud of these little artists and builders...
