It's SO GREAT to be back!!! We had an absolutely spectacular week and my heart could not possibly be more full.
This week in kindergarten...
We shared about our winter break and drew detailed pictures to communicate our ideas.
We looked closely at some winter photos and learned how fun it is to share our wonders when we take the time to reeeallly look at something. Next, we went outside and took some close-up nature photos of our own. We have quite the group of photographers! Ask your child which of the following photos THEY took :)
We explored some exciting new centres and had so much fun playing alongside each other once again.
Here's what the kiddos were up to in math this week with Mrs. Planden:
We've started the new calendar year with a new unit--measurement! This week the big idea is that we measure things in different ways and we have begun learning measurement vocabulary words including short/tall, light/heavy, hot/cold, full/empty and loud/quiet.
The students entered the classroom to a variety of informal measurement activities including measuring a big piece of driftwood using clothespins, tree branches using playdough containers, a frame using square tiles and a grass section using plastic links! The focus and determination that the students displayed was really incredible-- such a great way to kick off the new year!
Next week we will start to use words like 'unit' and will learn the best ways to measure items (length in particular) with accuracy. In Kindergarten, we do not use standard units of measure (cm, mm, etc.) we use 'informal' units of measure. (blocks, clothespins, paper clips, etc.)
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
