Happy New Year! We've had such a great first week back. The kiddos were super excited to see their friends and had no problem jumping right back in where we left off in December.

On our first day back together, everyone was bursting with stories to share. Each child drew a picture of something they did over the holidays. We're continually learning to add details to our drawings as a way of communicating our ideas with greater clarity.

On the following day, we added letters and words to our drawings and many students wrote a sentence for the very first time! YIPPEEEE!!! They were feeling quite proud of themselves. Please know that each student is working towards their own goals in writing. At this point in the year, children should be feeling more comfortable with letter sounds and be able to independently record some beginning letters that match what they have drawn. Children who are more confident with letter sounds have been encouraged to begin writing simple sentences, but this is not in any way an expectation at this time in the year.

We've been exploring animal habitats and attributes through some new centres this week. We also have a very popular new veterinarian clinic that the children are enjoying a great deal.

On Thursday, we created some pretty spectacular self portraits. We're honing our painting skills and learning how to add multiple layers of paint to our work. These were so much fun :)

We learned a new math game called Watch Out to help us practice the skill of counting-on when adding 2 numbers together. Friday was filled with math exploration and play!

I hope you're all having an amazing weekend. Stay warm out there!
