With E as our letter focus, we spent a good portion of our time this week learning to talk about and identify emotions. Many children can confidently speak to what it means to feel happy, mad or sad but have a harder time explaining the difference between feelings such as frustration, disappointment or worry. We read many stories and had many rich discussions about times in our lives when we have experienced these emotions. Learning to accurately identify how we are feeling is an important first step to working through these big feelings.
Children worked in partners to create imaginary stories and had so much fun sharing each one with the class. Check out this gem...
One day Des and Hannah were at the park. THEN a boulder came and they screamed, “HELP! HELP! HELP!” They grabbed the phone and called the worker police (who were called Menentrera). They had a big, BIG hammer and they SMASHED the boulder before it hit the park.
Do you make up stories at home? This is something you can do anytime or anywhere. On your next car ride, see if you and your child can make up a silly story that includes a main character, a setting, a problem and a solution!
We had our last session with our resident poet, Miranda Krogstad. She led us through some fun poetry stations that encouraged us to take the role of a poet, use descriptive vocabulary and reflect on our time together.
The afternoon class enjoyed working through some literacy and math centres on Friday. It was such a beautiful morning!
Have a wonderful weekend 💖
