L is for LOVE!

This week was all about LOVE! From magic potions and cupcakes to kindness notes and painting, there was plenty to explore and investigate. Take a look at some of our fun new centres...

(special delivery of some kindness notes)

We read stories about love and reflected on times when we feel the most loved.

We've spent the past 2 weeks working on some pretty spectacular self portraits that started with a beautiful discussion about our many diverse and beautiful colours of skin. We read Beautiful, Beautiful Me and came up with special names for each of our unique skin tones. Children colour-matched their skin colour to a variety of paint colours to begin their life-size self portrait.

Kiddos are also continuing to explore measurement with Mrs. Planden…

We've continued our measurement unit, but have done a little bit of charting our own course to follow the lead of the students! We've been learning that we can measure sound, and have some decibel meter (or noise meters) on loan from another school. Thanks to everyone who helped facilitate our students to bring in things from home that they wished to test the noise level of. In the afternoon class we learned just how noisy a whistle was, and how noisy spilling our train tracks on the floor was! In the morning class we were all shocked about how much noise the bin we hold our whiteboards in creates when it shuts! We also had fun creating noise makers in math using a variety of expired pantry food (lentils, pasta etc.) along with some metal objects like screws and bolts. We then measured our noise makers with our sound meter!

I'll leave you with some fun centre time pictures from the last couple of weeks. Our donuts were such a HUGE hit!

Classroom Info and Reminders

1. Have you accessed your child's online report card yet? Make sure you don't miss the comments from Mrs. Planden and I.  Please contact the office if you are having any difficulty.

2. Valentine's Day is coming! Your child is welcome to bring in valentines to hand out to their classmates if this is something they are interested in doing. If your child chooses to bring in valentines, I have a couple small requests:

-Organizing the handing-out of these things can be a bit difficult. To simplify the process, I am asking that students sign their valentines with their own name, but leave the "To" part blank. Or write, To: My friend. We have 15 children in the morning class and 12 children in the afternoon class.

-We have spent SO MUCH time learning to write our names with lower case letters, using a capital only at the beginning. As your child will be writing their name many, many times, please encourage them to write their name this way.

-We request that you not send in food treats. If you are interested in sending in something extra, pencils, stickers or any other non-food treat is more than welcome (but not necessary!)

If you made it this far, congratulations!!! It's amazing how much we accomplish in a couple of weeks. Enjoy your weekend!
