What an incredible week! We began our time together by sharing stories about what we did over the long weekend. Children drew pictures to represent one of their favourite weekend memories.
Our letter this week was T. Children drew pictures of things beginning with this letter sound and attempted writing for the FIRST TIME by recording a beginning sound beside what they had drawn. Some kiddos even recorded an ending sound as well. These are HUGE steps in the process of becoming a writer and I couldn't be more proud. We did a letter hunt while looking through some fall stories and the kids really loved this. Try this at home!
We have now spent A LOT of time talking about the letters P, C, T and F. Ask your child to show you the action and sound for each of these letters. Next week's letter focus will be A.
Our number centres this week had us counting, ordering, recognizing, and representing numbers to 10. Many children can effortlessly count to 10 already but are still learning what those numbers mean. Games and hands-on activities help children to develop a deeper meaning of what each number represents, looks like and how it relates to other numbers.
We spent time this week talking about accuracy and what that looks like when we're completing math activities. Our morning group whizzed through many of the activities, resulting in work that was inaccurate. Children were asked to self-assess their own work and make any corrections necessary. Who knew taking your time was an important math skill!?
Centre time this week was filled with tower building, drawing trees, plenty of painting and lots of giggles.
"Taxi starts with T!!!!"
On our early dismissal Friday, the afternoon class spent time learning about toucans! We came across some toucan facts while learning about the letter T and decided to investigate these cool creatures even further. Ask your child to share what they learned!
