Happy Fall!! The kiddos LOVED talking about the changes they are seeing outside and had so much fun adventuring to Green Park for a fall-inspired scavenger hunt.

We are learning to be helpful and work as a team. These zipper experts were so proud to jump in and offer their skills :)

Each week in kindergarten, we will highlight one letter to help us practice letter formation and become more confident with letter/sound relationships. This week we learned about the letter P. Children practiced printing this letter in their fancy new artist sketchbooks and drew pictures of things that begin with this sound. Please support your child by pointing out anything and everything you see or hear that begins with this letter.

We were even inspired to make things that begin with the letter P using our play dough!

Ask your child who these 2 cuties are...
(This is Papa Pig and Penelope. They ONLY like things that begin with the letter P.)

Whenever possible, I love introducing the kids to new artists that relate to our letter learning. This week, we learned about PPPPPablo PPPPPicasso while getting some extra scissor practice.

(Thank you to @minimadthings for your amazing Picasso cutouts!)

We continue to refine our fine motor and drawing skills each day. Shapes are a great place to start when planning out how to draw something. We even attempted labelling our pictures with beginning letter sounds.

The afternoon class drew pictures of their family, using shapes and details to make their pictures pop.

In math this week, our students continued to work on that important skill of benchmarking 5. After having a free play with playdough and gems, we made number cookies! Mrs. Planden dealt out different cards from 1-5 and the students represented their numbers on their cookies. We had all kinds of delicious number cookies from chocolate chip and raisin to gummy bear! It was interesting when some friends represented the same number differently! For example, someone made 3 cookies each with 1 raisin. Another friend made one cookie with 3 raisins! It is so neat how we can represent a number in different ways. The kids also loved playing guess my number to 5 where they had to guess the number that a student was thinking and gave clues about whether the number was lower or higher until the class had guessed it! Finally, we’ve been practicing our count down from 5 with the song “zoom, zoom, zoom, we’re going to the moon! If you want to take a trip, climb aboard my rocket ship! Zoom, zoom, zoom, we’re going to the moon! 5,4,3,2,1 BLAST OFF!!” Feel free to practice and enjoy the song with your child!

We also learned a new number game that the kiddos enjoyed playing during centre time.

And as always, here are a few pictures that capture some of our centre time fun...

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
