This week in kindergarten…

We conducted our first official science experiment! Children made a hypothesis about what would happen to some lovely white flowers if we added food colouring to their water. Kiddos came up with some very unique guesses that ranged from colour changing flowers to explosions!

On the following day, we were anxious to observe and record our results. This was SO COOL and has led to many more ideas of future experiments we can conduct. If you ever find yourself with some white flowers, try this at home!

We explored a new reading and relaxation centre.

We had a lot of fun exploring a new vet clinic centre.

We learned about the SH letter combo and the sound it makes.

We honed our soccer skills in gym.

We watered and cared for our plants each day.

This week in math we took a brief pause from our exploration of 2D and 3D shapes to explore 'part-part-whole' number stories. This is part of our ongoing work engaging with word problems. The students were given a variety of manipulatives and a picture mat with two chicks, each with a bowl of food. They put their manipulatives in different quantities in the bowls and told an oral story that represented the two different parts, and then figured out what quantity was the whole amount. Then in centers, students applied their knowledge of 'part part whole' stories into a different context! The kids were given a chance to explore two bird's nests with a variety of eggs to inspire more part- part-whole number stories!

Our collaborative artworks are officially complete and ready for the silent auction fundraiser taking place in May. Stay tuned for updates on how you can bid on these beauties!!

The weeks are flying by! I can't believe it's May next week! This is such a special time of year when the kids are becoming so independent and confident little learners. Let's treasure our last 2 months together in kindergarten!
