The weeks are flying by and our kiddos are becoming more brilliant by the day! I'm so proud of our little learners.

This week in kindergarten...

We learned about the letter B and drew pictures of things that begin with this letter.

We did some writing to accompany the incredible photos taken by the children last week. We're learning the difference between letters, words and sentences.

We enjoyed a new classroom centre that had us drawing detailed pictures of birds and painting them with our fancy watercolour paints.

We created a stunning collaborative blue mural together.

We brainstormed different exercises we can do to keep our bodies healthy and learned some artist tricks around how to draw people in action. On the following day, we drew detailed self-portraits and labelled as many body parts as we could.

Here are a few photos from our centre time and gym time this week. Ask your child how we played our snowman relay!

Here's what the kiddos were up to in math with Mrs. Planden on Monday:

This week we continued delving into the world of measurement! We created playdough snakes and measured their length using two different units. We discovered that the number of the measurement would change depending on the size of our unit! For example, one friend's snake measured 4 silver washers and then when they switched to a smaller unit, the same snake was 9 yellow stones!

We measured different images on our smart board and then learned how to measure with accuracy. We now know that when we measure something we should not have any gaps, any overlaps, and our units must be the same size. We also will choose only one unit to measure with rather than a combination of a couple different ones!

We are so excited to have rented some decibel meters from a junior high school after one of our kindergarten friends had the idea that we could also measure how loud or quiet something was! Our principal helped us track a few down for us to explore next week. We are asking all students to bring an item that they would like to have measured for sound. Please bring these items (no more than 2) on Monday, January 24 in a labeled plastic bag. Thank you so much!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Love,
Miss Roberts & Mrs. Planden

P.S. When I came back from the break, there were a few lovely gifts waiting for me on my desk but no names or cards to indicate who they were from. SO...if you did not receive a thank you from me, that is why!! Please know the popcorn is long gone (because it's my FAVE), and the candle and dish cloths are absolutely beautiful and have already been put to use. So THANK YOU! 😍
