This week in kindergarten...

We had a wonderful first week back! The children were so excited to share about their holidays and be reunited with their friends.

We started our week together by drawing pictures of something we did over the break. The children are learning to include details in their pictures that communicate WHERE they were, WHAT they were doing, and WHO they were with. Some children even wrote a sentence for the very first time!!

We practiced printing the letter W and drew pictures of things that begin with this letter.

We welcomed our new student teacher, Miss Matthews! She will be joining us for the next 3 months and will be teaching us lots of interesting things along the way. Miss Matthews introduced us to a new math unit this week...measurement! We focused on comparing lengths and learned to describe and compare classroom items as shorter and longer. Children were given a ribbon to measure different objects in the classroom and identified them as shorter or longer than the ribbon.

W is for WINTER! We talked about how WE prepare for this season and wondered how animals might survive when temperatures get cold. Children shared what they already know about animals in winter and came up with questions about what they would like to learn more about. Each child chose an animal they would like to investigate and drew a picture of it in their journal. Ask your child which animal they drew!
