We welcomed our Artist in Residence, Sharon Fortowsky, to the school this week. With Mrs. F, Children had the opportunity to explore an exciting new material...CLAY! We learned some clay building basics and are working on creating self-portraits. Our hard work this week is now off to be fired and we will be painting and adding exciting details like hair and clothing to our portraits in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Students loved exploring this new medium during center time too...

We learned a new math game this week that is helping students learn the skill of counting-on when adding 2 groups of numbers together. This is a brand-new skill for many of our little ones. When rolling 2 dice, have your child touch one of them, say the number, and then count-on from that number to find the total (6...7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12). Give it a try at home this weekend!

Children did some writing to accompany their magnificent self-portrait paintings from last week, exploring what makes each of us unique and amazing. We used "space men" to help us remember to use spaces between words when we write and worked hard to have our letters sitting on the lines rather than floating above them. Their writing this week was out of this world!

On our early dismissal Friday, afternoon students learned some new tricks around how to draw people in action while brainstorming different ways to exercise and keep our bodies healthy!

Have you heard about the new addition to our room? We received a surprise from our friends in Mr. West's class this week! When we're extra quiet during our work times, we can now hear crickets chirping in the background. It's SO cool!

Classroom Reminders:

1. In case you missed last week's post, this is a reminder that we are now only switching home reading books on Mondays and Thursdays

2. Next Friday, April 20 is a Professional Day for teachers. There will be no school for morning OR afternoon students on this day.

Enjoy some SUNSHINE this weekend!!
