What a lovely week! We began our time together by sharing stories about what we did over the long weekend. Children drew pictures to represent one of their favourite weekend memories. Drawing is an important stepping stone on the journey of becoming a writer. We're learning to represent and share our ideas with others.

Our letter focus this week was T. Children practiced printing this letter and drew pictures of things that begin with this letter sound. We had fun drawing Tigers and making Tall Towers!

We have now spent time learning about 3 letters: P, F, and T. Wondering how your child is doing with these letter concepts? Find a few items from around the house that begin with the letters P, F and T. See if your child can sort them by their initial letter sound. Or, while driving around in the car, say a word that begins with one of those letters and see if your child can tell you the initial letter sound of each word. We have also learned an action for each letter. Ask your child to show you the sound and action for each!

We're learning to label pictures with beginning letter sounds.

In math this week, we dove into some number centres which had us counting, ordering, recognizing, and representing numbers to 10. Many children can effortlessly count to 10 already but are still learning what those numbers mean. Games and hands-on activities help children to develop a deeper meaning of what each number represents, looks like, and how it relates to other numbers. We also learned a new number game that had us practicing our subitizing skills.

Gym time is always a highlight for the kiddos!

We're learning to write our names with a capital letter at the beginning, followed by lowercase letters. This is a brand new skill and one that is tricky for some of our kindergarten friends. A bit of extra practice at home might be helpful.

Centre time this week was filled with collaboration, building, exploring leaves, scissor practice, plenty of drawing and lots of giggles.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Mrs. Planden will be in on Monday AND Tuesday next week. I'll be in a training course on Tuesday, learning about the upcoming RRST (Reading Readiness Screening Tool).
