We talked about Reducing, Reusing and Recycling as ways for each of us to have a positive impact on our world. You can reinforce these concepts at home by having your child help to determine which items should be thrown in the garbage and which items can be recycled. Our morning class had the wonderful idea to go on a garbage hunt around the school. We were sad to find so much garbage on the ground, but very excited to pick it up and put it where it belongs. We even found some objects we could recycle or reuse!
We had an exciting guest scientist in our afternoon class this week! Students were introduced to many interesting rocks and fossils and practiced looking closely in order to make quality observations. Afterwards, we explored our school field to see what interesting rocks we could find. Many students were convinced they had discovered a dinosaur bone or a fossil :)
As many of our students are continuing to print their numbers backwards, we did some number printing this week. If you see your child writing numbers at home, please start having them correct any ones that they may have recorded backwards.
Classroom Reminders
1. We have Scientists in Schools coming to our classroom on June 15 to prepare an exciting day of scientific learning for our students. We are participating in a program called I Can Be A Scientist! In order for this to be a success, we will require 5 parent volunteers for both the morning and the afternoon class. We will need you for the full morning or afternoon and will require you to arrive 15 minutes prior to class so that we may explain your role for the day. If you have your security clearance and would like to be one of our volunteers for this exciting day, please email me to let me know. Thank you for your help!!
2. On Tuesday, June 6, all students are invited to participate in the Calgary Bike to School Day. Students are asked to wear helmets and to bring a lock to secure their bikes along the fence
3. Next week will be our last week to take out library and home reading books. Please have all library and home reading books returned to the school by June 16.
4. Our last Scholastic catalogue of the year was sent home this week. If you would like to order any books before the summer, please return these order forms on Monday.
It's June! Can you believe it?! One more month to go!
Enjoy your weekend!
Miss Roberts :)
