We had a very busy and fun-filled week together in kindergarten! As we do each and every week, children practiced printing and drawing things that begin with our weekly letter. This week we talked about the letter F. We have now spent time focusing on 6 alphabet letters and sounds that your child should feel quite comfortable with (P, H, C, T, A and F). It's so exciting to see our little ones becoming writers! Take a look at how our writing skills are progressing:

Some children are labelling their pictures with beginning letter sounds.

Some children are beginning to listen for beginning and ending sounds.

Some children are beginning to listen for beginning, middle and ending sounds.

In preparation for our visit to the fire station, students reflected on everything they know about firefighters and came up with some great questions about things they would like to learn on our visit. Students are becoming much more confident representing their ideas through their drawings!

Our afternoon visit to the fire station was a huge success! The firefighters taught us about fire safety and gave us a tour of the fire hall and the fire truck! Each student had a chance to sit in the truck and turn on the flashing red lights. It was a very exciting day! The morning class will visit the fire station on Wednesday.

On our early dismissal Friday, we learned about abstract art and created an absolutely breathtaking collaborative mural using F-F-Fall colours! Our little artists were feeling quite proud of their work.

Wow, we did A LOT this week! Annnd we even managed to squeeze in some spooky Halloween fun!

Classroom Information and Reminders

1. Retakes and class photos are happening on Thursday, November 8. Please let me know if your child will be getting retakes so I can ensure they don't get missed.

2. The morning class will be visiting the fire station on Wednesday morning. Please ensure your child is dressed for an outdoor walk on that day.

3. The afternoon class has had bad luck with their library day over the past couple of weeks due to set-up for Halloween Hey Day and our fire station visit. Fingers crossed we will make it to the library this week!

4. On Friday, November 9 at 10:30am, we will be having a Remembrance Day assembly. Parents and other family members are welcome to attend. Students who are part of Sparks, Brownies, Beavers or Scouts are invited to wear their uniforms for our ceremony. While a Poppy will be freely distributed to all students who wish to wear one, the Legion gratefully accepts donations to the Poppy Fund. All funds collected will go directly towards supporting Canada's veterans and their families.
